The mNACTEC is located in Aymerich, Amat & Jover steam-powered factory in Terrassa. The building was supervised by the architect Lluís Muncunill. The factory was opened in November 1908. In the eleven thousand square-metre factory, the wool was transformed into fine textiles, having passed through the intervening stages of washing, carding, combing, threading, weaving and the different finishes.
It is the most emblematic piece of infrastructure modernist textile factory in Europe. The architect Lluís Muncunill achieved a synthesis of design, using traditional materials and techniques such as flat brick vaults and iron columns.
The Museum includes many features related to the world of science and technology, from the pre-industrial era right up to the present day. The exhibitions are: Textile Mill, Energy, Homo Faber, Transport, 1907 Mentora Alsina Physics Laboratory), Lluís Muncunill, architect for the industry and Interpretation Area from the factory to museum and it has many other temporal exhibitions.
The mNACTEC is the head of the system of Museum of Science and Technology of Catalonia which has 25 independents museums which explain the different sectors of industrialisation in Catalonia such as mining of cool and metals, paper, cork, flour mill, railway steam, textiles colonies, ceramics, salt, alcohol. One of them is the Museu de la Farga Palau de Ripoll involved in iron works with the particular Catalan system around the Pyrenees.
