Explore the history of European blast furnaces from 1800

1.
To start the blast furnace, it has to be filled with charcoal or coal.

2.
Then ore and limestone are added. A good mixing ratio is 70% charcoal / coke, 20% ore and 10% limestone.

3.
The charcoal / coke burns, heating the furnace. The iron smelts out of the ore. Limestone helps to separate iron and slag.

4.
The material must always be mixed well.

5.
To heat the furnace it has to be fired and the bellows have to start.

6.
The ideal temperature is around 1600° C (coke) and 1400° C (charcoal). It only can be achieved with constant air supply.

7.
As soon as the ore has melted, after around 10 hours, the first casting can begin.

8.
To keep the furnace running, charcoal / coke, ore and limestone have to be added again.
